"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant man, seeking beautiful pearls: Who, when he had found one PEARL of great price, went out and sold all that he had, and bought it." Matthew 13:45-46
Our heavenly Father loves us so much that He gave His first, His only and His best when He gave us His Son Jesus to die for our sins. And the Holy Spirit, who always walks along side us, was there with Jesus as He suffered on the cross. But it was Jesus who endured the excruciating pain and humiliation of the cross. Just like the pearl merchant, our Lord Jesus paid a very high price for our salvation. How great a price Jesus paid for you and me! All believers are a part of the PEARL of great price, that Jesus purchased with His own precious and holy blood.
When I began to seek understanding about this parable, I decided to look at a pearl. I thought about the fact that I could only see one side of a pearl at one time. So I looked for other sides to the parable of the PEARL. For instance, all believers pay a personal price by choosing to follow Jesus and choosing to live a life of obedience. However the personal price of discipleship is nothing in comparison to the price Jesus paid for our salvation. When we choose, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to lay down our old life at the foot of the cross, we become a part of the PEARL that Jesus paid dearly for that day on Calvary"s hill.
When
I began to think about how a pearl develops I remembered that a pearl
is actually a piece of sand which embeds itself inside the oyster. Then
the oyster begins to form a beautiful pearl by adding layers around a
small grain of sand. The formation of the pearl reminds me of Paul's
description of the work that the Holy Spirit does within the lives and
hearts of all believers. He is continually changing us from 'glory to
glory' into the image of Christ Jesus. As we grow in love and knowledge
of our Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit is adding layer upon layer of
luminescent pearl to our spirit man. Each of us is a work in progress,
but remember Jesus always sees us perfect and whole, like the finished
beautiful pearl,
that He payed so dearly for.
When I look at the many colored spectrum of a pearl, I see the many colors of God's people. Like the rainbow of colors reflected in a pearl, we bring our own unique personality, talents and gifts to the body of Christ. Although we are individuals we are bonded together in unity, like the colors in a spectrum, to become an integral part of the Body of Christ, His Church.
When I see a pearl, I
admire its beautiful luminescent finish. With this picture in my mind,
I reflect on the time when Moses came down from Mount Sinai. He had
been in the presence of God and his face was glowing. It was so bright
the people made him put a vail over his face (Exodus 34:29-35). Jesus
is the Light of the world (John 8:12). When we are filled with His
light we radiate the love of Christ to others around us.
This is when we shine bright with His glory.
When I looked carefully into a pearl, I was surprised to see a vague shadow of myself on the surface of the pearl. At that moment I realized I am a part of the beautiful luminescent finish of the pearl itself. And therefore also a part of the the PEARL of great price, purchased with an immeasurable price by the finished work of the cross. Yes, Jesus paid such a high price for me and for you!
When I look with spiritual eyes deeper into a pearl, I see a reflection of Jesus looking at His PEARL with love in His eyes and mercy and grace in His heart.
One glorious day we will all pass through gates of pearl into God's heavenly city. Oh the pearly gates! Each of the twelve gates are made of one single giant pearl (Revelation 21:21). Each gate named for one of the twelve apostles, who after the death and resurrection of Jesus, went throughout the known world preaching the Gospel. Each one of the apostles laid the foundation for Jesus' church. Oh the pearly gates! What a magnificent picture this is! A gleaming portrait of His beloved bride, the church. When I finally see this awesome sight, I will remember once again the Church which I love, that stands perfected, glorified and unified in faith and love: Each member believing in the Most High, Divine Son of God, our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. And as I stand in awe, gazing up at the pearly gates, I will call to mind the great price Jesus paid for us to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Amen.

"The glory of the Lord is your rear guard."
Isaiah 58:8
The glory of the Lord is the presence of God. Hidden in His presence is the power of the Holy Spirit to protect and cover our back. Jesus is our rear guard and a barrier to all the power of the enemy.
In the book of Exodus God sees the afflictions of His people and delivers them from slavery in Egypt. The Israelites head into the wilderness and come to the Red Sea. Pharaoh, who is determined to bring the Israelites back into captivity, is pursuing close behind. With the army of Pharaoh behind and the Red Sea in front, all appears to be hopelessly lost to the Israelites. But at this moment the angel of God, who is up front leading the people, moves behind the frightened Israelites to protect them and also to confound the enemy (Exodus 14:19-20). And the cloud, which is the Holy Spirit also moves behind and becomes a barrier of darkness to the pursuing army of Pharaoh, and at the same time a light to the camp of the Israelites. The Holy Spirit is the rear guard, t to the Israelites. He's got their back. The darkness confused Pharaoh army, while light gave hope in the Israelites' camp. As we keep Jesus, the Light of the World alive in our hearts, we have a barrier between us and the plans of Satan.
In the story of Noah (Genesis 9:20-27) we see a picture of Jesus once again going behind us, not only as a barrier, but also as a covering for sin. After the flood was over and the waters receded, Noah planted a vineyard. Noah got drunk and passed out naked. While Noah was passed out drunk, Ham sinned by looking at his father's nakedness. Then Ham proceeded to talk about it to his brothers. As a result God's word records Ham's son, Canaan was cursed forever. When the other sons of Noah, Zapheth and Shem heard Ham's story they discretely entered Noah's tent 'backward' and covered there father's nakedness. Note that they entered Noah's tent 'backwards'. They did not look at their father while covering him. The scripture says they were blessed. Japheth and Shem's actions are a picture of the grace of God that follows us. Our Father God does not look at our sins, but He sees us forgiven and reconciled to Him through the veil of Jesus' blood (Hebrews10:20). Our sins are unseen, covered by the blood of Jesus. He is our rear guard, our rereward. He's got our back! Jesus also had Noah's back covered. Even though Noah got drunk, God's gift of righteousness and grace followed Noah and covered his sin. In Hebrews 11:17 the word of God tells us that Noah is counted to be an heir of righteousness, because by faith he listened to God and built the arc (Hebrews 11:7). Noah planted the vineyard and got drunk some time after building the ark and after the flood. God's grace followed Noah through his life, even when he sinned. And the grace of our Lord Jesus is also following us, even when we fall short. Jesus is our rereward. He's got our back!
In Romans 6:14, the word of God says, sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace. GRACE is God's unmerited favor. THE LAW, set down by God through Moses to the Israelites, is our schoolmaster (Galations 3:24), a measuring stick that shows us that it is impossible to keep all of God's laws and commandments. We have all sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). Jesus, who became God incarnate in human flesh is the only person to have ever lived, perfectly keeping all the law. Jesus never sinned and He is the unblemished Lamb of God (John 1:29), who on the cross poured out His blood and gave His life that we might have true liberty. He took the punishment for our sins (1John 2:2 Our propitiation). He forever defeated the enemy (Hebrews 2:14), and is constantly watching our back. Jesus is now seated in heaven at the right hand of God our Father ever living to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25). When we fall short, we should immediately repent and confess our sin and know that His covering of mercy and grace is already in place to restore us and wash us white as snow (Romans 7:15-25). Just like Japheth and Shem, our back is turned away from unrighteousness and sin. We are dead to sin and alive to righteousness (Romans 6:11). We are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1). Therefore if we are not guilty before Jesus, the Judge of all, we should not carry guilt or shame in our minds and hearts. Noah is not remembered for being drunk, but for having faith to build the arc. When we do sin, we should confess our sins to God, who is faithful and just to forgive all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9).
We receive the rear guard of God through our faith in Jesus and by His grace. We are saved by grace and not by works, the law (Ephesians 2:8.9). We continue to receive His grace as we walk in faith and abide in Him. In the letter to the Galations, Paul warns us not to return to justifying ourselves by keeping the law, but instead we are advised to continue in the grace we received when we were first born again (Galations 3:3). Paul's warning is necessary for all believers. We all go through trials and tribulations. Like Noah all of us have fallen into sin at one time or another. But remember His glory goes behind us, becoming a barrier to the enemy and a covering for our sins. He is watching our back.
Alleluia!
Amen.
Acts 1, 2 You will receive powerThe fire of God burns out of us the things that don't belong and burns into us His purpose for our lives. So that (John 37:38,39) "Out of our belly shall flow living water."
when the Holy Spirit is come upon you.

Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

The One who says "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Always REMEMBER YOU HAVE A FRIEND that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).
And He is with you where ever you go (Joshua 1:9).
He will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
He is
faithful and He won't let you down. Even when your own faith fails,
remember that His faith never has, nor ever will fail. And He will not
allow the problems you face to be above what you can bear (1Corinthians
10:13).
His mercy is renewed every day. Great is His Faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23).
BE PERSUADED THAT NOTHING WILL SEPARATE YOU FROM JESUS (Romans 8:38). Count trials, tribulations and all earthly things to be nothing in comparison to the love you have for Jesus and His unfailing love for you (Philippians 3:7).
FOLLOW EXAMPLES OF OTHERS WHO OVERCAME. Heroes of faith, those that have obtained victory in Christ Jesus. In Hebrews chapter eleven Paul tells the stories of men and women in the Bible who have overcome great trials. Among the great heroes of faith mentioned in this chapter of Hebrews are: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses' parents, Moses, Joshua, Rahab, and many more. These men and women are great examples for all of us who are following Christ, and yet at the same time facing overwhelming trials and tribulations. Paul also encourages us to follow his own example of discipleship (Philippians 3:17). And our Lord Jesus said "If any man desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:23
Therefore, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every problem that easily besets us. Let us PATIENTLY RUN THE RACE which is set before us. Looking up to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame and is now seated at the right hand of God, ever living to make intercession for us (Hebrews 12:1,2).
RUN THE RACE TO WIN (1Corinthians 9:24).
Never give up. Set your mind to cross the finish line in victory. No matter what happens during the race along the road of life, continue
to PRESS TOWARD THE MARK of the 'high calling' of our Lord Jesus Christ
(Philippians 3:13,14).
And what is that 'high calling'?
It is CHRIST LIVING IN US AND THROUGH US BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Colossians 1:27).
And it is also the right to be a citizen in the Kingdom of Heaven,
which entitles you to live eternally as a part of
God the Father's heavenly family.
Finally, remember the One who began a good thing in you, will see it through to the end.
Philippians 1:6

Getting to know the Holy Sprit will deepen your faith and change the course of your life. Paul says we are being changed from glory to glory into the image of Christ by the Holy Spirit (2Corinthians 3:18). The Holy Spirit has the power to change your life.
WHO or WHAT is the Holy Spirit?
Is 'it' some invisible power dynamo, that is simply the third 'part' of
the Godhead. Or is the Holy Spirit 'something' from the ancient times
of the Bible, or is the Holy Spirit just a mysterious spiritual force
experienced only in church meetings. The Holy Spirit is definitely not
an 'it', or a 'something', or just a 'part' of the Holy Trinity. Nor is
the Holy Spirit confined within the walls of a church meeting. He is
the third person of the Holy Trinity, a PERSON who is all powerful and
not limited to space or time. Yet He chooses to live in and walk along
side every believer. He is our paraclete (in Greek paracletos), 'the
one who walks along side'.
"He is a FRIEND that sticks closer than a brother".
Proverbs 18:24
Jesus tells us the Spirit is always with us and in us. Just like a
friend He knows us personally, and He wants each of us to know Him. He
hears everything we say and sees everything we do. At times all of us
by our actions vex or grieve the Holy Spirit. Yet He never leaves us or
forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5).
He is our friend. A friend accepts you for who you are. And He is that
kind of friend. He meets you exactly where you are on this oftentimes
bumpy road of life. He's there each day to greet you with open arms of
love. I encourage you to acknowledge His presence in your life by
spending time and talking with Him every day.
He is our COMFORTER.
John 14:16
No matter what you might have done or where you feel you have fallen short the Holy Spirit is there to comfort us. He's there to catch you when you slip. He picks you up and dusts you off when you fall. He brings hope when all seems to be lost. He is a companion, when you are alone. He makes you bold as a lion when you're afraid. He heals you when you're hurt or sick. He makes the impossible possible. He tears down obstacles that stand in the way of your dreams. He always works things together for good to bring you through to victory. When storm clouds of doubt and sin darken your way, He brings merciful rays of sunshine. When persecution comes and others reject you, He's there reassuring you that you are His own. He never leaves your side, no matter how the storm is raging around you. He's longs to bring you comfort.
"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send you from the Father, even the THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, which proceeds from the father, shall testify of me"
John 15:26
The Holy Spirit is the
SPIRIT OF TRUTH
Jesus says, "He shall testify of me" (John 15:26).The
Spirit of Truth is our guide always showing us Jesus, who is the way,
the truth and the life. We hear the voice of Jesus through the Holy
Spirit. "My sheep hear my voice." God made us with free will and it is
up to us to be obedient to His voice. The Holy Spirit is perfect in His
judgement and always knows what is best for us.
"And when He ( the Comforter) is come, He will CONVICT (reprove) the world of sin, and of
RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUDGEMENT."
John 16:8
The Spirit of Truth CONVICTS us of sin and shows us when we are not right with God. He turns us away from sin and shows us Jesus, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. By the power of the blood of the cross Jesus is the only one who can keep us from the JUDGEMENT that comes from sin. In the letter to the Romans 7:19-25 Paul the apostle admits he doesn't always do what he wants to do and sometimes he does what he doesn't want to do. All of us including the great apostle Paul sin and deserve the judgement of God. However Paul concludes that the solution is Jesus. He says in Romans 8:1 "There is now therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit". What does it mean to walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh? Those who walk after the Spirit, hear His voice, repent, turn from sin to the cross and believe they receive forgiveness and thereby become exempt from judgement. On the other hand, those that walk after the flesh, listen to the voice of the flesh which offers no justification, but simply condemns the sinner, leaving them with guilt and the burden of trying yet always failing to overcome sin by their own effort. The flesh says 'work', the Spirit says 'finished'. The flesh can never achieve a state of no condemnation (justification) by its own efforts. Those who walk after the flesh deceive themselves by seeking justification though their own ability to walk perfectly with God. However we can choose to walk after the Spirit by listening to the voice of the Spirit of Truth telling us we are made free from condemnation by the redemptive power of Jesus' blood. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and then He points to true righteousness. He confirms the truth that Jesus is the one who justifies us, freeing us from sin and condemnation. The Spirit of Truth CONVICTS the sinner by showing them the RIGHTEOUSNESS of Jesus. And though faith in the blood of Jesus, they are made free from the JUDGEMENT of God.
"As many as are led by the spirit, They are the sons of God."
Romans 8:14
The Holy Spirit is our GUIDE
And if we are led by the Holy Spirit to hear the truth, God says we are
the sons of God (Romans 8:14). The blood of Jesus alone purchased our
right of son-ship and by faith we receive it. And the guiding power of
the Spirit of Truth is always with us to lead us and keep us on the
righteous path of true son-ship. Through the work of the Holy Spirit,
Jesus becomes alive in our hearts and minds. If sin, guilt or doubt
cause us to veer off the path , the Holy Spirit restores our faith,
leading us back to Jesus. He doesn't give up no matter how long it
takes. He continually guides us until the point, that the truth over
shadows all our sin. We then clearly see Jesus, Our Resurrected Lord
and the wonderful plan He has for our good. The Holy Spirit is our
GUIDE, leading us to our destiny in the Kingdom of God.
"But the comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall TEACH you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you".
Romans14:26
The Holy Spirit is our TEACHER Jesus also tells us in the Gospel of John, that the Holy Spirit is our teacher. He not only teaches us about Jesus, but he also causes us to remember what he has taught us. He also gives us the words we need to say, when we tell others about the gospel. When we read God's Word, hear a sermon or read a book about Jesus, the Holy Spirit is there to bring a deeper revelation of the truth about Jesus, and He also uses the truth about Jesus to bring illumination to our lives. He will also reveal the lies of false teachers and false doctrines. Jesus said "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free". The Holy Spirit is constantly revealing Jesus to us in a new and fresh way. He takes the truth revealed in God's Word and uses it to bring illumination to our lives, which alters our characters in a positive way, so we may be more able to fulfill His perfect will in the Kingdom of Heaven. The end result is we are constantly changing from glory to glory into the image of Christ by His Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a PERSON.
He is our comforter, assuring us that we are not alone in this world.
He shows us the Savior and the way to salvation. Always by our side He
leads us and guides us along the walk of faith through life. And He
gives us boldness to be witnesses of Jesus Christ, so others can enter
into the Kingdom of Heaven. He is worthy of thanks, praise and worship
for the marvelous work He does in our lives. We can find strength in
His continual presence.
"He is with you wherever you go."
(Joshua 1:9)
Amen.
